Waste Acceptance

Baled waste

Baled waste

The Waste Licence specifies that only Baled Municipal Waste is accepted for landfilling. Baled waste is delivered to the site by road going trucks in fully enclosed containers, which are deposited in stillages located in the marshalling yard. The delivered waste quantities are recorded by an automatic weighbridge system at the site entrance. The containers are then transferred by specially adapted rough terrain vehicles (RTVs) to the working area, where the bales are removed and placed in the landfill cell two at a time by a tracked grab machine. Waste is accepted between 08.00-18.30 Monday-Saturday inclusive, as specified under the current Waste Licence. Arthurstown Landfill facility is not open to members of the public.

4.8 million tonnes of baled Municipal Waste from the greater Dublin Region has been landfilled at Arthurstown. (Landfill closed December 21st 2010.)
